At first glance, poker seems to be an easy game similar to monopoly, scrabble, or video games. When you venture deeper into poker, you notice that it is a lot more than just a game. Poker is a game of demoralization and simply the powerful will prevail. After you nail the basic structure down for your game, disciplining your emotions is the single most important part in playing great poker. Anybody can learn the odds, beginning hand requirements, and how to act in varying hand situations. Just a tiny percentage of the poker playing population can maintain their feelings when things are going poorly. Playing well after squandering large pots is the thing that separates excellent players from adequate players. Think about everything you do in life that follows a familiar sequence. When you are in a bad mood, you have trouble focusing attention on everyday events. When you are pissed, you have trouble thinking straight. As human beings, we’re incredibly emotional when it comes to life. Poker is a sport that takes us amongst the various range of emotions. We have the greatest highs after raking in a huge pot. We have the lowest lows when we lose a big pot.

Emotional control is an ability that can be mastered by anyone. In any given sport, or game, emotional mastery is the ‘thing’ that makes amazing players. Just like anything else in the world, it requires a tonne of discipline and experience to manage your emotions at the poker game.
