Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player on the globe by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative feedback from others kill his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
