Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover whatever he could about the game. He would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative comments from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
