Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil started competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his success. He admits to making errors every single session of poker and always strives to improve.

Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
