Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental feedback from others kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing love for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
