Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he possibly could about the game. He would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the adverse feedback from others kill his goal of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
