Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He started competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning experience and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always strives to improve.
Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
